Joyful July and Merry!


Joyful July's Monthly Update:


Merry Miller-Gass

We are so happy to have Merry Miller-Gass with us at the My Voice Media Center. We are pleased to have her for three adult sessions and one youth session.

Merry is always filled with energy, happy, and eager to help participants along their journey of wellness and recovery.

We would like to send a BIG HUGE thank you to Merry for all her work!



MERRY's Sessions:

2D and 3D session- Tuesdays 10 AM - 12 PM

Painting- Thursdays 10 AM - 12 PM

Art and Feelings- Fridays 10 AM - 12 PM

CASA Kids Art Night (Youth)- Last Wednesday of the month



Art and Feelings 2023-24; Merry was acknowledged and her session's art was used by Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency, Mental Health Division, and Mental Health Board Committee, for the Mental Health Board Annual Report 2023.


Joyful July!


Our theme is Joyful July. The color of the month is a calm and refreshing peach color.

Come and enjoy MVMC's safe and welcoming environment to explore your creative side, discover mental health tools, and learn how to express yourself through the arts.

Our monthly theme and color are based on the warmth and comfort of a peaceful peach color. Our participants are encouraged to incorporate our monthly themes and colors within their artistic self-expression.

MVMC Activities and Mental Health Awareness in July:

  • Participant work featured at How We Roll Ice Cream, in Downtown Visalia July-Sept 2024. They are located at 104 S. Church St. Visalia, CA 93291. See the art and order some delicious ice cream!

  • Joyous July celebrates Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Health Awareness Month, BIPOC Mental Health Month, and Disability Pride Month. (To read more about BIPOC Mental Health Month go to: https://mhanational.org/mental-health-month-toolkit)

  • Holidays include National Disability Independence Day July 26, International Self-Care Day July 24th

MVMC Session Updates 

Art and Feelings Session

  • Participants will learn how to use elements of value to convey emotions in their artwork. This month the lesson is on texture and how to convey emotions with texture.

Art of Movement Session

  • Art of Movement’s George Jagatic works with participants at different experience levels on artful stretching and posing. The session alternates between mindful yoga, active engagement, expressive movement, and movement-meditation. 

Drawing Session

  • The Drawing session, with facilitator, Bronson Combs, has been working on multi-session reference works in graphite.

Guitar Session

  • The Guitar session is working on songs, like “Down in the Valley”, and “Amazing Grace”.

No Stigma Speakers Bureau Session

  • The No Stigma Speakers Bureau will be practicing for their next presentation with SJVC on July 24th, from 10:30-12 pm. New participants are invited to learn how to write, edit, practice, and present their stories to the public. Second and fourth Wednesdays 12 PM-1 PM.

Peer Support Session

  • In July, participants who requested Peer Support, old and new, will work on WRAP plans and learning tools to cope with triggers, with our Peer support specialist, Olivia Garza. By Appointment only - First, third, and fifth Wednesdays 12 PM-1 PM, Thursdays 2 PM-3 PM.

Photo and Video Editing Session

  • Phet Kamsaysoury works with both Photo and Video Editing sessions. The participants are working on how to edit using Photoshop tools and video editing using Final Cut Pro. Phet has a session on Zoom and an in-person session at MVMC.

  • Photo Editing (ZOOM Session) 12 PM - 2 PM.

  • Video Editing (In-Person) 12 PM - 2 PM.

Painting Session

  • Fine art painting at any level during lessons with Merry Miller-Gass. Thursdays 10 AM-12 PM.

Printmaking Session

  • Eddie Isaola helps participants learn how to carve with an easy MDF board and make beautiful prints from references of their choice, from any level of expertise. Fridays 12 PM-2 PM.

Open Art Computers

  • The Open Art Computers session allows participants to utilize the computers for artistic purposes. Participants may use the computers for Photoshop, references, and research on art and artists. Tuesdays 2 PM-3 PM.

2D 3D Art

  • Participants will learn techniques on perspective in June with Merry Miller-Gass. Techniques this month will include pop art and a contemporary art study. Tuesdays 10 AM-12 PM


Offsite Youth Sessions with our Partners: (for Youth 18 and younger)

Tulare County Court Appointed Special Advocates: CASA Art Night with Merry Miller-Gass: The CASA Kids Art Night on the last Wednesday of the month.

Allensworth Progressive Association: Allensworth Art Night with Lateef Kadara: The Allensworth Kids Art Night is on the third Thursday, in Allensworth, CA, youth participants will create art at the Allensworth Community Center.


About the My Voice Media Center:

  • The My Voice Media Center Project (MVMC) is made possible through a partnership between the Arts Consortium and the Tulare County Health and Human Services Mental Health branch.

  • The My Voice Media Center serves adults from throughout Tulare County who have first-hand experiences with mental health struggles and those who provide support for the same.

  • We believe self-expression, using art mediums, can aid our community to thrive along a path of wellness and recovery.

  • My Voice Media Center aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Our activities include the following:

● We provide a safe and welcoming environment where participants may explore their artistic style.

● We provide opportunities for our participants to learn from professional artists on and off-site.

● We provide exhibition and art sale opportunities for interested participants.

● We provide opportunities for our participants to take part in presentations that help educate our community at large about mental wellness and recovery.

● We collaborate with local organizations to promote and advocate for mental health services.

● We provide opportunities for our participants to visit other arts and culture centers.
