Making Waves: Highlights from Mental Health Awareness Month

Celebrating community, creativity, and connection all May long

May was a month to remember! At My Voice Media Center, we dove into Mental Health Awareness Month with bold energy and a mission: Hang Loose & Shatter the Silence. From powerful conversations to playful photo ops, each event reminded us that joy and vulnerability can go hand in hand.

We kicked things off at our Open House and Open Mic, where handcrafted decor, brave performances, interactive activities, and our unforgettable "Conquer the Fear" Shark Photo Booth set the tone. Participants stepped up to the mic and shared music, poetry, personal stories, and showcased their beautiful artwork. Everyone came together to help break down stigma, while also lifting others up. And a super special thanks to everyone on the planning committee for making this event extra magical!

Later, we hit the stadium for the Rawhide Game Night, enjoying fireworks, free food, and connecting with the wider community. The MVMC, along with many amazing local organizations, handed out mental health resources and giveaways while fans cheered in the stands. Winning isn't everything, but our home team, the Rawhide, pulled off a victory! Go team! One of the most memorable moments? Our Peer Support Specialist and NSSB Facilitator, Olivia, was featured on the big screen, sharing her powerful poetry with the crowd!

Finally, we closed the month with our tropical Luau Picnic, complete with Hawaiian-themed activities, great food, and more chances to "Conquer the Fear" with our traveling shark photo booth. The laughter, movement, and connection made for a beautiful finale to a meaningful month.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke up, and celebrated the power of community. Your presence helps keep the conversation going and reminds others that they're not alone.
