A Passion FOR February

Updated: Feb 15, 2022

Hearts, arrows, love, and much more cast the spells in February for many. Many love February just for the flowers and candy, many more enjoy the celebration of couples and merry marriages. The idea behind February comes from the celebration of St. Valentine.

History of St. Valentine:

There are many stories surrounding the St. Valentine of the legendary "Valentine's Day" that we celebrate. It is said that he may be Roman, Christian, Catholic, or others. Although his true story has not ever been told, the legend is celebrated and recognized all over America.

Legends show him as a saint, having broken people out of prison, or it may have origins representative in Pegan religions as a day to celebrate fertility in harvests, "celebration of Lupercalia".

Many years later the day began to be associated with love through its ergo relationships with freedom and fertility, and having to do with a great saint of his time. "The English poet Geoffrey Chaucer was the first to record St. Valentine’s Day as a day of romantic celebration in his 1375 poem 'Parliament of Foules,' writing, 'For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne’s day / Whan every foul cometh ther to choose his mate." After this we can date back Valentine's greeting to the Middle ages.
